The labour force survey has the objective of measuring employment and those looking for work to follow up the changes in the rate of employment and those looking for work, especially among Omanis resulting from factors affecting labour supply and demand in the labour market. Other objectives of the survey include the studying of the economic and social characteristics of the labour force, concentrating on those looking for work, especially those who have not worked before, hence assisting in setting out the necessary employment policies and programmes. The survey also aims at studying the economic and social conditions and their impact on those looking for work, their ambitions , reasons behind the reluctance of some Omanis to join either manual jobs or the private sector. It also aims to identify the extent to which the graduates of the education system match requirement of the labour market.

Among the features which assist in achieving success of the survey is the help given by the families to the researchers and providing them with the correct and accurate information, which play an important role in the formulation of plans and programmes of Omanization, training and human resource development.

The survey process would,on the other hand, be accompanied by a number of information activities and events to raise the awareness among families about the importance of the survey and its objectives by the use of the different media, together with ascertaining the importance of cooperation with those responsible for the collection of statistical data.
