The Ministry also conducts the tourism survey with the aim of arriving at a statistical database for the tourism sector and hence contribute toward the planning to develop this important production sector. The concerned officials undertake the survey of arrivals and departure of different nationalities at the different border crossings for the purpose of estimating the total number of tourists visiting the Sultanate during the year.

The Ministry also annually conducts a survey of ' Khareef Salalah' in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism aiming to measure the total number of visitors to Salalah, the purpose being to study tourism during Khareef season, together with studying the economic and demographic characteristics of the visitors. Efforts for establishing tourism database continue consisting of the surveys conducted and the other statistical data pertinent to the tourism sector from their different sources, in addition to the continuity of conducting the quarterly survey of hotels activity.
